Add and fund a ledger
A ledger is where your node keeps your money in one asset: on its account on the XRP Ledger testnet, or in a settlement hub. You add it in the wallet, put test money on it, and remove it when you are done with it.
On this page
Add a ledger
- Open Ledgers and choose + Add ledger.
- Under Choose a ledger type, choose Select → next to the one you want. A ledger you have already shows Active.
Your node offers the ledgers of the testnet:
| Ledger | What it holds |
|---|---|
| XRP Ledger Testnet | Test XRP on your node's testnet account. The testnet's faucet funds it for free. |
| DSUSD on the XRP Ledger Testnet | DSUSD, Dassie's test dollar token, on the same account. The account pays its fees in XRP. |
| XRP in a settlement hub on the XRP Ledger Testnet | Your account in the testnet's XRP hub, funded from XRP Ledger Testnet. |
| DSUSD in a settlement hub on the XRP Ledger Testnet | Your account in the testnet's DSUSD hub, funded from DSUSD on the XRP Ledger Testnet. It needs XRP Ledger Testnet too, which pays the escrow's fees. |
The first two are your own ledgers. Each funds the settlement hub of its asset, and peers with no one itself: your node settles with peers only through hubs. Add the ledgers a hub needs first, then the hub's. The settlement schemes reference lists every ledger a node can run.
Reading a ledger
Ledgers shows a card for each ledger: the part of your balance on it, and below it what the account holds on the XRP Ledger itself. A ledger that holds part of an asset, such as your XRP in a hub, says what you have of that asset in all. While the node is connecting or catching up with the ledger, the card says so. It also shows the account's deposit address, and what the XRP Ledger holds back on it as a reserve, which is never spent and not in your balance.
Assets shows the account itself: what it holds of each asset as the XRP Ledger reports it, and which ledgers settle through it. Activity and assets says more.
Fund it with test XRP
A new account does not exist on the XRP Ledger until it receives enough XRP for its reserve. Until then, the card says "The account does not exist yet", and your node asks the testnet faucet for XRP by itself. Usually that is all it takes.
To ask for more, or to send test XRP from another wallet:
- Open Assets, and on your testnet account's card choose Get test XRP to ask the faucet, once a minute at most. The XRP shows up once the ledger validates it.
- Or send test XRP from another testnet wallet to your account's address, shown as text and as a QR code on its card on Assets, and on the ledger's card on Ledgers. It needs no destination tag: the address is your node's alone.
Receive on the ledger's card opens Receive's tab for the asset, which shows the same address and the faucet, whether or not you are in the asset's hub. Your node moves into the hub what it needs there, and what is beyond a float in the hub back to your account (Where the money stays).
Fund it with DSUSD
DSUSD lives on the same account as your test XRP, on a trust line to Dassie's DSUSD issuer that your node sets up itself. The account pays its fees and the trust line's reserve in XRP, so it needs XRP first.
- Add DSUSD on the XRP Ledger Testnet, and choose Receive on its card.
- If the account does not exist yet, choose Get test XRP for its fees. DSUSD cannot arrive before the account and its trust line exist, and the page says when the line is there.
- DSUSD has no faucet. Buy it with test XRP on the testnet's XRP/DSUSD pool, from any XRP Ledger wallet: a payment to your deposit address whose amount is DSUSD, paid for with XRP, swaps through the pool and arrives as DSUSD.
The tab shows the issuer's address, what the trust line holds, and how much XRP the account has for fees. Send only DSUSD of that issuer, and test XRP: other tokens may be lost.
Your node watches DSUSD's price on its pool, and stops converting it while the price is off a dollar. Dollar tokens and the peg guard explains what that pause does.
Remove a ledger
- On the ledger's card on Ledgers, choose the remove button.
- Read the checklist. These keep a ledger in use, and must go first: BTP tokens that use it, ended peerings still to be settled on it, payments from it still being sent, and money on its way between it and its settlement hub.
-
Type the confirmation the page asks for, such as
DELETE XRPL-TESTNET-XRP, and choose Remove ledger account.
A hub's ledger first settles up with the peers that settle on it, which takes a few minutes at most, then waits about an hour for what they may still send, and goes. The card says "Being removed" meanwhile.
The page warns of a possibility to lose funds: removing a ledger stops your node from using it, and while the ledger is gone your node does not settle on it. What your books hold on it stays, and comes back when you add the ledger again. The money on the XRP Ledger stays on your account, whose keys come from your recovery phrase.
When something is wrong
- "Connecting to the ledger: waiting, as …" names what your node waits for, such as a list of validators it has none of yet. It usually clears by itself.
-
"Something is wrong with the ledger" names the
problem. Check that your node reaches the internet, and look at
dassie status. - The faucet refuses. It gives once a minute at most, and the testnet's faucet is sometimes down. Try again later, or send test XRP from another wallet.
Why it works this way: why the wallet shows what the XRP Ledger reports, and not what the books add up to. Ledgers, books and realms explains it in plain words.
